HANDMADE NEEDLE CASES AND KNITTING BAGS

Katharyn Crippen Shapiro
started making needle cases when her sister was in desperate need of a containment
system for her knitting needles. With a design long held in the recesses of her
mind and an attic full of material (that was waiting for the perfect project) the
straight case came to life. The next step was rounds to local yarn stores to introduce the cases and get feedback, then a few minor tweaks and off to a Sheep & Wool Festival. The straight cases sold out, and orders were taken for circular needle cases, that were designed with the assistance of about 72 knitters attending the show. (And if it was never stated to you personally, thank you!) |
From the beginning the idea was to use fabric remnants or small yardages to make
buying and sewing much more interesting. Which means no fabric choices except
assorted. Local yarn stores that carry CrippenWorks goods are visited several
times a year by Katharyn who is laden with boxes of needle cases from which they
can choose. Fairs and Festivals allow retail buyers the same option of choosing from a wide assortment of fabrics. For the website the decision was made to offer six fabric options and change them frequently to keep variety in e-commerce and, more importantly, keep two people from showing up at the same knitting class wearing the same prom dress ...oops!...rather, having the same needle case. Custom sizes of cases and bags are always an option, email your ideas/needs and we can make just what you need. And please feel free to contact us with your comments, suggestions, knitting story or great fudge recipe. |
